Young Artists' Competition Finalists

Miranda (Tong) Wu, 19,

Born in China, the nineteen-year-old pianist Miranda Wu has studied piano for eleven years. She has won many piano competitions in China, such as the first place winner in the National Kawaii Piano Competition, Shaanxi Province, China (2005), the State Solo Piano Competition, Hunan, China (2001), the Ya-Fe-De Piano Competition, Shaanxi, China (2001), and the Shin-Hai Piano Competition, Hunan, China (2000). She was accepted into the Xi’an Music Conservatory Pre-College Division in 2002, and graduated first in her class in 2005. Miranda was awarded a distinguished piano scholarship from Weber State University in 2005 for her outstanding musical talent. She is currently pursuing her Piano Performance degree in Music and is a piano student of Dr. Yu-Jane Yang at Weber State University
Since coming to Utah in August 2005, Miranda has been selected to perform at the honors recital of the 2005 Utah Music Teachers State Conference and in the Utah Symphony pre-concert recital at the Browning Center. Moreover, she was a price winner in the very competitive Utah Music Teachers Association State Piano Performance Competition in 2005. Miranda was Semi-Finalist of the Bösendorfer & Schimmel USasu International Piano Competition in Phoenix in 2006. She is the first place winner of the 2007 Coeur d’Alene Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition College Division in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and will be performing with the Orchestra in March 2007. Most recently, she is a winner of the Weber State University Concerto Night Competition, and will be performing Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No.2 in April 2007. .
